New Classes Starting Jan 01 2011

ZenSuedled®in Fabric and Thread – By Sue Patten


The art of ZenSuedling® is sweeping the nation!! This class takes you step by step through the art of ZenSuedling® with continuous lines, designs, and fillers to create your very own one of a kind ZenSuedled® whole cloth quilt. This technique combines stencils, templates, rulers and free motion fun to the max. Sue will cover thread tension, batting and the options of using stencils and computerized designs to add that extra WOW to your master peace.
This is offered as a lecture demo with machine featured as a 2 hour class. Hand outs include “one of a kind designs” that can be used to ZenSuedle®.


 ZenSuedled® Whole Cloth Marking Class – By Sue Patten


This is not your grandma’s whole cloth!! This “hands on” design class will see you complete a 45 x 45 ZenSuedle® Whole Cloth, marked in class, stitched at home. Sue offers a full array of templates, stencils and rulers as she takes you step by step in marking, your own “one of a kind”, ZenSuedle®. Bring a 45 x 45 black or white piece of fabric. If marking on black fabric you will need to bring to class 3-4 Clover white wash away pens, if marking on white fabric you will need to bring to class 3-4 blue wash away marking pens. If you are just interested in learning the art of ZenSuedleing® but not sure you want to complete such an intense whole cloth.... no problem!! Feel free to bring an 18 x 24 ish peace of sketch pad paper with 3 fine tip black sharpie markers and 3 black medium sharpie markers and just join in the fun of ZenSuedling® with us.
This is a 4-6 hour marking class. Sue will supply all rulers, templates, and stencils needed in class. Students will need table space to work on. No machine needed!  

 

Plunk and Play – By Sue Patten


This class is full of new and innovated ways to spice up those all over designs. Sue combines motifs and all new “stipplish” back ground fillers to take all over quilting to a whole new level. This class explores the use of everything from free motion to computerized pre set designs, the use of stencils, acrylic rulers, and thread play all combined to create a stunning all over style that will wow judges and clients alike. Sue explores the use of different batting types and threads to create a full custom look to those everyday all over quilting tasks we are faced with everyday. Come explore this fast pass class of “Plunk and Play”

Spines With Designs: Sashings and Borders – By Sue Patten
Based on Sue’s new Book “Adaptable Quilting Designs”


We spend so much time planning the block motifs that we often ignore the sashings altogether. This class offers you all new design concepts that may be free motion quilted quickly and easily. Designed for everyday client quilts, these concepts may be used on any style of quilt and they complement all the designs from Spines with Designs Block class. So put away your free motion fears and come join in the fun and excitement of this, wonderfully innovative spines with designs class.

Adaptable Quilting Designs: Block Class – By Sue Patten
Based on Sue’s new Book “Adaptable Quilting Designs”


This class offers new designs concepts for full size blocks, corner stones, and triangles. It includes everything from “featherish” to feather alternatives with the added touch of new spine ideas that can be added and altered to any design you have already mastered. This is a free motion class, where students will learn how to concern those every day quilts in half the time with precision and confidence and no pre marking. We will discuss tension, floating, batting and thread colour choices.

Spines With Designs: Block Class For BEGINNERS – By Sue Patten
Based on Sue’s new Book “Adaptable Quilting Designs”


This class offers 20 new designs concepts for full size blocks or cornerstones. It includes everything from “featherish” to feather alternatives with the added touch of new spine ideas that can be added and altered to any design you have already mastered. This is a free motion class, where students will learn how to concern those every day quilts in half the time with precision and confidence and no pre marking. A Little Stipple Here and A Little Stipple There - By Sue Patten


Tired of the same old background stippling?? This class is packed full of new, fun and creative ideas for those every day quilts. Students will learn a multitude of quick and easy everyday stipple designs. These innovative ideas are perfect for those block fillers and appliqué backgrounds, or to compliment and enhance trapunto. This class takes the art of stippling to a whole new level! So come add a little stipple here and little stipple there to those everyday quick and easy quilts.

NO marking, NO turning of the quilt, and NO pantos needed!!! Come learn how quick and easy those quilts can be done using free motion. This class covers design ideas, threads, batting, texture and movement to create evenly distributed quilting. In addition, students will learn how to create and quilt outside boarders without having to turn the quilt!! Students will learn everything from soft flowing feather designs to all out feather alternatives. Imagine being able to complete those customer quilts in half the time with no math and designs that interlock and fit perfectly from the first row to the last every time. Free Motion Possibilities: For the True Beginner – By Sue Patten


This fast-paced class is packed full of inspiration. Based on Sue’s book “Quilting Possibilities... Freehand Filler Patterns” students will create unique quilt designs for five everyday quilt blocks. These are quilt designs that can be free motion quilted for clients to create a full custom quilt, in no time at all. Using a three-step method, discover how quick, easy and accurate free motion quilting can be. These designs are intended to be used for the everyday client quilts we earn our living quilting. So leave those templates and marking tools behind and come experience the excitement of free motion possibilities. Books will be available for purchase at the end of class however the hand outs cover all designs mastered in class so the book does not need to be purchased by the students to take the class. If you already have the book and would like Sue to personalize it for you please feel free to bring it with you to class. This class will also have an open discussion on charging your clients for custom quilting, thread choices, and batting selection.

Stunning Sashings: By Sue Patten


If you have ever been stumped on what to fill those sashings and corner stones then this is the class for you. This class is packed full of new and unique designs for all size sashings, corner stones, and boarders. This class will explore the balance between design and texture. Students will build confidence in there free motion skills while learning new designs created to maximize the art of texture to enhance any quilt that comes your way. This is not your average traditional designs, but rather new and innovative designs to help you achieve that cutting edge in your show quilts and full custom client quilts. Students will learn a multitude of exciting alternatives to the everyday scribble stipple... which is so last decade. These innovative ideas can be used for everything from block fillers and appliqué backgrounds, to whole cloth design fillers used to compliment and enhance trapunto. This class takes the art of stippling to a whole new level! Come discover that “every little bit” really does count!!

Thread Art Extreme - By Sue Patten


Have you ever wanted to thread art on your longarm? Come and see how fun and easy it can be. This class is based on Sue’s thread counting technique and takes you step-by-step through 4 stages of thread art. From outline texture straight through to full fill in thread art tapestry. Using a variety of different threads to shade and highlight original flower designs, as seen on The Quilt Show and America Sews. Students will use a multitude of cotton variegated threads and learn to master many different thread color exchanges and deal with each brand to create perfect tension both front and back. She will discuss batting and which is best for reversible and one sided thread art. She will show you how easy it is to complete your beautiful works of art by adding texture with her unique background fillers!! Sue will have many of her award winning quilts on display during the class for student to examine up close and personal. Come experience a world of beauty created with thread, in this high speed, heart pounding, thread art extreme!! All supplies needed in class including the pre marked designs that will be worked on and all the threads required to complete the class sample will be supplied by Sue.

There were just too many designs and not enough time to fit all my new sashing designs into one class. So this is more, wild sashing alternative designs to help create that cutting edge on your personal and client’s quilts. There are no repeats from the Stunning Sashing class so if you need even more sashing ideas come explore this high speed free motion class.

A Quilters Journey


Come and travel through a quilter's journey as Sue Patten shares her quilting experiences through hilarious stories while she shares a full array of quilts.  The journey starts with a few of her hand quilted pieces and takes you through time until she reveals her many award winning Thread Art Quilts of all sizes.  Sue Patten started her journey seventeen years ago and has gone from self taught, closet hand quilter to award winning, internationally acclaimed Longarm Quilter, Instructor, Designer and Author. She has traveled around the world teaching the art of longarm quilting, a journey that has taken her to Germany, France, England and throughout the US and Canada.  Her trunk show offers a variety of quilting styles as she makes her way through the years and explores all aspects offered in the Quilt Industry.  If you have ever wondered how the journey begins and where it takes you when you least expect it...Then come out and enjoy one quilters hilarious journey to success.
  *This trunk show features everything from her hand quilted quilts straight through to her award winning thread art quilts. Please feel free to offer time after the trunk show for students to have time to get up close and personal to the quilts, ask questions and have books signed.*
